Very nice picture of one of my favourite statues - A Lucky Find at Pompeii by Hippolyte Alexandre Julien Moulin (1864). Why is an excavator digging up Pompeiian relics while stark naked? Hard to say, unless there's some kind of symbolic connection between the digger and the nude statuette he's uncovered.
Behind him is Winner of the Cockfight by Alexandre Falguiere, also executed in 1864. Exuberant dancing youths seem to have been something of a common motif for the period.
I'm impressed with the size and detail of this image. My only quibble is that the figures are a little dark. Increasing the exposure slightly might have revealed more surface detail.
